Good idea?

I'm thinking about writing a book, about my life, for my children. It started as a letter. A collection of thoughts and hopes and Wished ( kind of in case I die - so that they know me) but now I can imagine chapters.
I want to explain how I came to be the me I am today. With the thoughts, beliefs and values I hold. In order to do so, I think I will include the personal most emotional parts of my life, including my childhood, strained relations with parents. Family. And things have happened in the past with their father - I don't intend to badmouth these people from the grave, or influence my children, I believe I could be fair and honest from my perspective, i do wish to give them an understanding of me, their mother.
Do you think children would be grateful to have that or is it tmi or inappropriate for them to know the finer details from their parents life?

as someone who lost their mum last year, I wish she had of...I say spill it all and let them have it when you feel they are old enough to understand, to respect what you have done for them in opening up to them...mum said she would do something like that, though her fear of cancer stopped her..i spent a month looking through her house, hoping to have found the books she wanted to leave for my sister and I and her grandchildren...... so many unanswered questions are left, I think having a book on my mums life would have been awesome and a true treasure... do it

I read my grandma's diaries after she died. She kept things very neutral emotionally and I had so many questions that she didn't answer so I would say yes include details so long as they are relevant and serve a purpose. X
