Hi Ladies & Gents! I've always wanted to be a primary school
Teacher and after much thought have decided to finally do it!! Problem is I have no idea where to start!! I graduated in 98 but didn't go for an OP. Since leaving school I have obtained a cert 3 in hospitality, cert 3 in financial services & teir 2 accreditation. Is this enough or do I need to do further study to even begin studying education? I will need to keep working so will need to do this via distance education (I'm Northside of Brisbane). Also would I be eligible for some kind of financial support to pay for the course(hecs etc)? Hubby absolutely loves his job & is happy for me to chase my dream but I just don't know where to start!! Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks

I had the same problem. Im not sure about other unis but USQ has a preparation program. Its 6 months long as gives you access to any course you want. I didnt get an op and im now doing psychology. I also get aus study through centerlink. There is a USQ at Springfield. Definitely have a look. The tpp course is absolutely free as well...
It can vary from state to state. Each uni has there requirements listed for each course on there websites. There are different paths to get in. Some require an essay, others require a test, some do a course.
You will most likely have to do some practical work (they try and place you in your area) but would require some time off and some courses do require you travel in occasionally.
Some places take on mature students so you won't need an op to gain access looking into their their acceptance criteria and get in contacts with the university and talk to someone there
I was looking into this myself, from my understanding you can go do a stat it's a variety of questions test, you book and can go do it at numerous locations, that will contribute to your "score" which is basically your op if you don't have one. Not only that but it demonstrates your ability to use English correctly which as you know is never a bad thing, but hopefully you can get in just using your past education credibility alone.
I am currently in the same boat graduated in 01 now want to study uni. I applied through CQ University for s STEPS program to help get me back into study. Best thing I've done, there's so much I didn't know about uni - writing essays, referencing and it's helped brush up on maths etc. And its completely free bar 2 study books
Try and talk to an academic adviser from the University to give you advice on what you need to do. The government can help with your uni fees via HECS/HELP when you apply for your course. I did my degree through JCU in cairns but there are lots of choices for you especially external options: USQ, UQ, JCU, CQU Open university is also an option, my sister in law did her degree externally through them. Good luck with everything you are entering a wonderful, exhausting but rewarding career ?
