I'm concerned about my sons speech.
I have been on the waiting list for speech therapy for 7 months now (country town in Victoria) for my 3 year old.
He knows a lot of words and knows what he is trying to say but he can't pronounce them properly or put them into sentences. If he can't say the word he replaces it with 'Ah' Example: Don't be silly he says Don't be ahh.
I've also noticed he struggles with the start and some end of his words?
The longest sentence he has spoken is No Don't Dad/Mum or his brothers nick names.
He had a hearing test done 3 weeks ago and passed and is seeing the dentist this month (he also has a slightly high palate) but in the mean time I feel bad for sitting around waiting for someone to tell me what it is that's delaying his speech and what I can do to help.
Please Mums any advice would be fantastic. I feel like a failure.

Get him through the private system. I went privately, paid cash, you could be waiting for ages longer and then they often can offer very limited services. A private speech therapist will get the ball rolling faster and give you homework so that you don't have to see them as much.
Dont wait for public system go private and pay the money. When my daughter was diagnosed she was put on public wait list but we went private aswell, 18 mths later i got a call offering me speech therapy through the public system. Those extra 18mths of therapy gave her a head start especially going into school.
It's all well and good to go private but some people can't afford that. My 2yr old has a speech delay and we are on the waiting list for 1 month. I have purchased some flash cards and we read alot. I do alot of activities with her and talk constantly to her all day. Good luck
Omg I can't read any more comments about talking to your child or reading to him. Speech delay/ disorders don't come from parents not talking to there kids.Have you heard of apraxia? Not saying this is what your son has but maybe read up yourself and educate yourself. Follow your gut and keep searching for answers. Good luck
