Pregnancy and Centrelink

I'm a single mum with a 7yr old child and work full time. I'm currently 6 months pregnant with my second child and not coping with working and dealing with a horrible pregnancy.
If I decide to quit my job what happens with Centrelink, since I won't meet the 18hour working a week requirement?? Or if I decide to stick it out, when is the earliest I can finish up before baby is born to be still entitled to maternity leave??

I would speak to a social worker at centrelink before I did anything. They may try and put you on unemployment but there are other payments you can receive, especially if you are sick. Make sure your doctor backs up your decision not to work. If they do put you on newstart a social worker can give you an exemption from looking for work. As your eldest is 7 are you entitled to parenting payment single?

Agreed, go and see Centrelink. There are normally exemptions if you are too unwell to continue working during your pregnancy, and if you organise it beforehand you can arrange to still get the PPL even though you haven't worked right up to the birth.
