20 month old has been saying the F word

IM Q: 20 month old has been saying the F word

I am just after any tips to stop my 20 month old son from saying the F word. We recently went away with my family & some friends and since we have been back our son has been saying "say f***" which to us seems to point to someone actually thinking it's funny to teach him to say that & hubby and I are understandably not happy. We know it wouldn't have been anyone in my immediate family & I have asked both of my sisters who both said of course they didn't (which I knew they wouldn't have as they both work with young children). We have put it down to either my sisters boyfriend or a family friends boyfriend thinking it would be funny but we don't want to ask as we don't want to be seen to accuse anyone and cause any family drama. Anyway that's the back story...
My question is have you got any tips to stop him from saying this? At first we would ignore it or just say "what does a duck say? Quack quack" in an attempt to change the topic but that didn't work. My father in law threatened to put pepper in his mouth when they were baby sitting the other day but my husband and I both said that if he did that they would lose baby sitting duties for a bit as we think that is highly inappropriate for his age as he does not understand what he is saying. In the last couple of days when he has been saying it we have been quietly saying to him "please don't say that word as it is a naughty word" and his reply is "oh no" but then he has still been saying it. Last night I when I was putting him to bed he was lying there going "say f*** say f**** say f***" over and over. We don't want to yell at him as we feel that this will make a big deal out of it and he will think it's funny to keep saying it if we give him a reaction. Any tips on how to stop this bad language at such a young age? Thanks in advance

We tried all the above you've suggested around that age and our little man still found it funny, in the end we sent him to naughty corner ( which is rare and severe punishment for him )and told him he was in there because it was a bad word and not something he should say.
Only took 2 visits to naughty corner and he knows now and never says it

A friend recently uploaded a really cute video of her daughter "talking about trucks" and sure enough, this angelic looking little kid was sitting there chatting about "red fire f****", "dump f****" and the like.

I do agree that the "say" part may sound like it has been taught but having seen this friend's video (my friend just continued the conversation using the correct word truck and did what I think was an amazing job at not laughing, I was in hysterics watching it) I wonder if maybe someone on the holiday picked up that he was mispronouncing "truck" so encouraged him to "say truck" not "say f---"?
