kids & technology

So the kids just wrecked the screen of my Mac air laptop, after breaking hubby's iPod touch screen and countless pendo screens I've bought for them. I've banned them from using my mobile as they delete apps and photos and rearrange stuff. I'm at my wits end. I don't want to deprive them from technology but something's gotta give. Can they not make childproof screens and unbreakable covers for stuff??? All l have left is my Mac desktop but as of now, they are banned from that which means no Netflix For them. I need advice and no I don't want you to tell me not to give them anymore access as this is their generation, technology is their world, and they are still too young to realise the damage they do and the financial consequences. Just why the hell is everything so breakable?

I'm not saying this in a harsh way... BUT these things are not that "breakable". If they are consistently breaking things then they are not using them appropriately. This may be a deliberate act or it may be that they are simply not old enough for the responsibility of using expensive electronic devices independently. Technology should be a part of their world, but it should not be their world. So restrict their access to it to times that are supervised by an adult to ensure proper use or continue as you are and accept that you will be continually paying to fix broken expensive items.

Honestly my kid isn't allowed to play with that stuff if I'm not supervising! Yeah it's there generation, but it's expensive stuff, I don't let them play with other stuff that's expensive unsupervised so they are mostly in eyesight where I can see. There are great cases for iPads that are pretty in breakable like otter box and defender. I've seen kids throw them and they didn't break!

My.kids share an ipad, they broke the screen and i refused to pay to have it fixed they all had to.save their pocket money to.get it.fixed. since then they have been very thoughtful when using breakables or technology. Yes you can get shock proof and drop proof coveres but at the end of the day they have to learn to be careful. And sometimes the only way to learn is to hit them where is hurts in their pockets.

Obvious way to young to be using these if they don't understand the value and how to use them properly then they shouldnt be using them. Going by this I'm assuming they are younger then school age, and if this is so, no they dont need all this technology, they are small children.

Wow there's a lot of judging going on in these replys. Not what the IM was asking for!!
For the iPads etc you can get a brand called Otter or Lifeproof which are really good and strong. Both hubby and I have them on and have never had anything break from accidental drops etc. As for deleting stuff is it just there too young to know better? My 4 yr old does that so I just watch and don't let him have my phone alone until he can learn which bits he can use and what not to do.
Good luck, broken screens can be so expensive. Our cases where both around $100 but so much cheaper than replacing screens all the time

Try Amzer shatter proof screens on ebay, also there is an app called APP BLOCK to stop them deleting apps.
And JB hi fi have heavy duty cases for around $40.
If you like that particular brand, as I know they are more affordable, I would be contacting Pendo directly to ask them if they'll be bringing out and childhood protective accessories.
Good Luck.

There's a thing called guided access on iPhones. If u enable it u can choose when to put it on, once in a certain app u put it on and then the kids can't get out of that app unless they put in a certain pass code chosen by you. Then they can't delete photos, other apps etc, it's great for my 2 & 4yr olds.

Yep - and on android there's "kids shell" - has the same idea where the kid can't exit to wreak havoc on your phone etc.
