So, my partner and I have been together for a number of years. We have never joined bank accounts, while ever sometimes it works but mostly it's my insecurities since I had our child and only work part time I don't feel like I contribute financially enough. Anyway, it's come time to upgrade to a larger home, renovate or relocate?? We've come to the decision to renovate.. Back to the financial side, should we start a new account together or keep them separate and have one account together for the bills/home loan and our own personal accounts to do our own thing?

Hubby and I have always had seperate. Our mortgage is joint we have a joint savings but our own acct for wages. I earn less as I'm part time to raise kids. We split the bills based on our income and both left with play money that we don't have to be accountable for.
Works fantastic!!! I see so many friends bitching about what they're partner spends from bank acct etc.
I figure aslong as our bills are paid and we're saving then what we each spend the left over on is our business
Me and hubby have always had joint account and a joint mortgage. We both get paid into the same account each week all the billd get paid from that account aswell as mortgage. Once everythings for and food shopping done if we have extra money we can spend it on what we like or put it on our mortgage. We talk about anything we need to buy so nothing is missed. And if we want something one week but theirs not enough money then we save and get it the following week.
