Tax return with zero income

Hi, I am after opinions on what should i do with my tax return this year. I have been home with newborn all year so thats zero income. I got ftb a&b in my account that was spent on childcare, school fees and medical bills of kids. Rest all was coming and going from my partners accounts. Do i need to file a tax return this year? Its my first time zero income in a year so i feel silly to say in my taxes that i didnt earn but i kept spending.. If i do not file a return, can i ask hubby to include all this expense in his tax return as most of the amounts are tax deductible but were not paid from his accounts.

don't you file a joint tax return in this case? I'm pretty sure thats what my parents do, but they have joint bank accounts etc. I'm pretty sure hubby can claim you and the kids as dependents, so you would not need to file a tax return.

Are you in Australia?? If you recieve it is considered to be an exempt government payment. However you will have to lodge a tax return if you have received other income and possibly may need to lodge one for centrelink to prove that you have no income.
In Australia each person is required to lodge a tax return (there are no joint returns for married couples).
Items such as childcare and school fees are not tax deductible. Tax deductions are only available for expenses incurred in gaining or producing assessable income.
A net medical expense tax offset used to be available but is being phased out so it's unlikely you will be able to claim it or your husband. (By the way I'm a tax accountant)
