12 week scan cost? Is 11 weeks 5 days too early?

Trying to book 12 week scan at 11 weeks and 5 days because my partner won't be home at 12 weeks. I was told to wait until 11 weeks and 3 days. I rang up to book same company different lady who told me no not until past 12 weeks.
She said it would cost $130 and i can claim some back but she said if they do the scan and it's too early and they can't tell the results for what they are looking for it will cost me $65 and i won't be able to claim anything back and i will have to make another app. She was very rude about it all.
I was suprised i thought the scan was free and part of routine? We are going public for birth, I have health insurance but not covered for pregnancy..

I want to know if it's right that people are paying for the 12 week nuchal translucency scan or if there is other options. And is 11 weeks and 5 days really too early?
Obviously my first pregnancy....
Thanks xx

I had to pay for my 12 week scan and bloods, and wasn't able to claim anything back from Medicare. I have no private health. I also didn't get all back for my dating scan at 7 weeks, and would've paid for the 20 week scan but it was done at the hospital so was bulk billed.

I had to pay for my 12 week scan and it cost me nearly $300. I was able to claim about $70 back from memory. My 18 week scan was bulk billed.

I claimed $60 back on medicare. I dont think 11.5 is to early. Maybe call around and ask other ultra sound place if its to early.

Yes, had to pay for NT scan too. Claimed some back if I recall but was out of pocket still.

I've not ever had to pay for any of my routine ultrasounds. My first was born in Victoria my 2nd in NSW & 3rd in North QLD. With my 2nd child the place I called to book the app was going to cost a fortune & I asked why & she said they were a private clinic & gave my the number for another place that didn't cost anything.

I did however have to pay for the 3D/4D ultrasound as that was optional.

Yes, it's normal that you pay... $130 is actually quite cheap too! They will bulk bill the 20week scan as by then you will be under the care of the hospital and they will refer you to their medical imaging department. 11w 5days is not too early at all! I think that lady just wanted to make things difficult! Truth be told, if you haven't had a scan yet you probably don't know exact dates anyway!! I'd call back and insist that you want it done at 11w 5days if that's what is best for you and your partner!

If you choose to get bloods done too, that will be extra so just keep that in mind. We didn't get bloods as we don't have any genetic diseases in our family so we were happy to take the results of the scan only :)

I went private with 1st pregnancy and public 2nd had to pay for all scans ect for both pregnancies. I had my scans at exactly 12 weeks - think as long as you make sure you've got a really full bladder you should be fine with them seeing everything.

the 12 week scan is not considered routine unless your high risk, ie over 30 or history of birth defects in the family.
I've had my scans all around the 12 week mark (a few days either side of 12 weeks from memory)
For my first 2 kids I didn't even have the scan (I was under 30) and my next 2 kids I was over 30 and had the scan, I think it cost me around $150-175 mark and I got about $70 back from medicare, even tho the lady at the place told time of booking that you can only claim if you meet a certain criteria.
