Strong willed son

Hi ladies,

My son turned 5 in March and started big school kindy this year.

Lately we've been having some issues with him. He will not listen to us, we've tried everything, punishment, taking toys away, time outs, rewards, reward charts etc. He won't go to sleep at night, will be awake for hours after his bedtime but still have to get up for school.

I make sure he has a balanced diet, fruit and vegetables every day, junk food only on occasion or birthday parties. He has swimming lesson one day a week, soccer training one day & a game on Saturday morning.

He has now started acting up at school by refusing to do his work or reading, not throwing tantrums or anything just flat out refusing and cannot be talked around at all. The teacher is having the same issue as us, nothing seems to work. If he doesn't want to do it, he will not do it.

I'm at a loss.

Is he strong willed or is he struggling with the work. My niece and nephew were very behavioural around doing school work. It was all a fight. Later they were diagnosed with dyslexia and it turned out they found the work god damn hard and couldn't express that.

My tips would be: anxiety around something, bullying or struggling with schoolwork.

It will pass, just lots of patience.
