I breastfeed, wherever I am. I'm not ashamed to do so, I don't cover up with a blanket but I am discreet-despite of this I am constantly scared I'll be told off for feeding. With the recent news of the man who was sent away for telling a mother to cover up, it really confuses me as to why it worries people that a child is feeding. As this is anonymous on the site (obviously not fb) I would love to hear what you think; is breastfeeding In public wrong? Why?

Definitely, 100%, not wrong. I have no issue with it. I have, however, left the room or had others leave (their choice, not asked by me) when breastfeeding my daughter when I could see others were visibly uncomfortable (my dad, other male relatives). I didn't ever really feed "in public", preferring to seek out parents rooms with comfy chairs, but that was less about the public than it was about me being comfortable when a feed would take up to 45 mins!
Definately not wrong! I try to cover in public but usually fail as all my babies and my youngest I am currently feeding just don't like being covered while feeding. I don't mind feeding in public at all but am still discreet about it. I don't feel like it has to be a huge song and dance it's just the same as giving a baby a bottle. Baby needs to eat lol
Totally cool with it as long as you're discreet.
I breast fed all my babies.
It's natural.
One time I breast fed my son when I was at church. I was discreet and covered him with a sheet. It was hot! I remember even with just a sheet he was sweating.
The following week during the homily (guess what! I'm catholic lol), the priest spoke about this exact topic! I went bright red. His message was that it was a perfectly natural and acceptable thing to do. It's the way God designed us.
I figure that some of the church goers weren't happy about my choice to breast feed my baby in the house of God... They would prefer he go hungry and cry? Perhaps I should have been more organised and fed him before church? He was my 5th son (see. Definitely catholic!).
It was the priests way of telling them to piss off! It really was. He was the most marvellous priest I've ever met.
If it's ok to breast feed in the house of God, then it's damn well perfectly fine to breast feed anywhere else!
Side note: I'm not a churchy anymore. Certainly not pushing any religious perspectives here.
I have felt uncomfortable seeing a woman breastfeed but I fully admit it's because I'm incredibly immature. I have a weird fascination with boobs (because I am flat) so I'm always a bit overwhelmed when I see boobs anywhere especially a big milk filled boob lmao I would never tell a woman to cover up I'd just try and look away or I'd leave.

I'm a where ever when ever kinda girl! Am currently feeding number two who is 13 months. I've never been told off, and if I was I'd tell them to get stuffed!
At first I was a bit nervous. But I faked it til I made it and before long I felt comfortable.
Now I just feed and never notice if people are looking or don't like what I'm doing :-)
Feed where ever you want when you want, how ever you want.
I breast fed in public at the age of 21, 20 years ago. It's time it became a non debate.
For sure it's not wrong anywhere anyhow it's hard enough to do let alone trying it in public for me, I do understand and mothers need to be supported.
I also until recently didn't really understand why the need to jam in in everyone else's face, when we're trying to avert our gaze. I now realise there's still enough instances of unfair unsupportive treatment that people apparently need to be educated or exposed to 'normalise' it.
However, I know I'm not supposeD To say it, but I don't like it being forced on me. I have an acquaintance that talks about it non stop and breastfeeds her 2 year old every 10 minutes in public in front of husbands totally boobs out wherever and I really honestly think it's unnecessary and annoying ( only because of the child's age)
I don't think its wrong, but I do think some ladies take it to far...for example... I was in Kmart with my son and this women was pushing her baby in a pram and the baby started crying she then lifts her top up, holding it under her chin, takes her breast out and then gets her baby out of the pram. It may be easier for her yes, I'm not disputing that, but it was inappropriate! Obviously not all breastfeeding mothers are like this (I assume not many are) but sometimes peoples issues with 'breastfeeding' isn't the actual feeding part.
I don't have issues at all. I don't care if you use a blanket or show as must as most do when out shopping. It is ridiculous people who use have modesty often have more of their breast on show than a feeding mother. If you don't like it don't look. I don't watch people around me eat so why would I watch a baby breast feeding. I was so disgusted when at work that the women I work with were ok with their breast being exposed in their uniform but oh so upset when a mother fed her baby.... We work in child care. People need to get over breasts being sexual and accept it. Next we will have to hide our ankles in case we upset some modest person with outdated views on a woman's body.
