Advice needed.
I have a 9 yr old son who has started throwing tantrums like a two year old (I mean the full on throw himself on the ground and cry, screaming, yelling "I hate you" etc....).
We have tried grounding, taking things off him, time outs - all the usual ones as well as some more unusual ones like trimming the grass under the fence with nail scissors wiping the skirting boards with wipes and a few others.
I have just sent him to his room for trying to sneak out the front door (without asking) with a second piece of cake (that he had already asked for and been told no).
I should mention that he has mild Aspergers.
Surely this isn't normal is it? Has anyone else dealt with this and how did you deal?

If he has aspergers you should get advice from a behavioural psychologist. Often tantrums in kids spike when hormones spike, they can also spike due to anxiety (very common with aspergers), increased pressures at school etc.
You can't punish a child out of tantrums (especially a child on the spectrum) because you can't reason with someone who has lost control of themselves and isn't thinking properly (which is what a tantrum is) what you can do is teach them better coping mechanisms for what sets them off which is what a psychologist can help you with.
I work with kids on the spectrum and have a 20year old son on the spectrum.
