Hi IM's. I'm a 33yo mother to two beautiful children. I am currently struggling with my weight and need your help. I am ashamed to admit it but I'm pretty sure I am ADDICTED to sugar! I drink at least 2 cans of coke a day and consume at least 2 chocolate bars. I am an emotional eater, and eat when I'm stressed, anxious, bored or lonely. I have put on close to 10kg over the past 18mths purely because of this sugar addiction. I enjoy exercise but with hubby working long hours whilst starting a new business and money being tight I am currently not at a gym and lack motivation to do it alone. Please any tips or advice on how to kick the sugar addiction would be appreciated. It is playing havoc with my mental health and I find I am moody and have a very short fuse at the moment with the kids. I don't want to feel this way and my kids deserve more than a cranky Mum.
Thanks

Firstly go see a psychologist so you can build new coping mechanisms for emotions etc. If you don't replace the eating with another behaviour you will fail (learnt that lesson myself).
Then set yourself up so it's really hard to fail. Remove one thing at a time and just stop buying it. It's really hard to eat chocolate if it's not in the house :)
Get yourself a pedometer and monitor your steps. You'll be surprised how inactive you are. If your kids are young enough to go in a stroller pop them in it and go for a long walk. The kids will be entertained and you will feel so much better.
You might find a dietician helpful and they can help hold you accountable. Otherwise your GP could weigh you in once a month.
The only thing I can suggest is try cutting back your coke first, see if you can cut back to 1 a day for a week then, cut a chocolate bar back to one as well the next week, then slowly cut back more as you get used to it. Going cold turkey will not help, especially for this kinda addiction. I know how you feel, I'm going through the same thing. I'm down to only 1 coke sometimes less a fortnight. But I do still have a long way to go with the rest of my eating. I can't afford a gym, so I'm going to start googling easy home workouts on YouTube, maybe some Zumba as my son loves to dance so I could involve him a little with that.
I'm also going to try and find something for me that I enjoy, I don't really know what yet but I'll work it out :) also someon told me when I feel like I want o eat something sugary, I should drink a glass of lemon water. Apparently it helps too :)
Look good luck Hun, I do know how you feel. I'll even help hold you accountable if you need someone :)
Before Xmas I was addict to sugar on average eating 3 family packs of m&m's a week plus a family block of chocolate. It was bad I decided to cut all chocolate and have protein smoothies for breakfast. For the first 2 weeks I was hell to live with after that it got easier. Now this week I have lost 12 kilos in weight.
Get the book I Quit Sugar, she has a Facebook page too. I've bought the book after Cheistmas but waited till all the Easter eggs were gone before feeling ready to start. It's surprising how easy it is once you're in the right head space. I'm just three weeks in, the first week I had head aches but apart from that, sugar cravings are gone and I now look at sugar food with no interest. Best thing is you can still eat bread and drink coffee but have to stay awY from fruit. Hope it goes just as well for you as it is for me. Good luck:-)
