Hi mummies!
Just wanted to hear from other mums on their opinions on baby capsules and rear facing car seats. Basically how big was your baby when they were born and how many months did they get out of a capsule or did you go straight to rear facing car seat for your newborn?
tossing up whether to go with capsule or car seat with #2.
thanks in advance .

We purchesed a really good covertable car seat for no#1 and when no#2 came she had the good car seat and we got another car seat for our older which is less bulky.
They are now 3 and 4 and still using them, just about to go onto the next one up.
My daughter was 2.5kg. Small so we used a rear facing capsule for 4 months until she went into a rear facing car seat. She went to forward facing in the same seat, still is in it now at 3.

I personally love the convenience of a capsule for the first couple o months. I used one for both my children they were both 51cm long and 7 pound when born. I moved them into a rearward facing car seat at 5 months, hey still did fit in the capsule but it was starting to get a bit cozy and it was summer for both so getting too hot for them. Also I found that I never took it out of he car from about 4 months on as it was heavy and they wouldn't stay asleep in it anyway. I did find the capsule especially good with number 2 as there is 21 months between them I could put bib in it and run after the eldest.
I loved having a capsule with both my boys but was fortunate that I had one given to me. Like other have said it is so much convenient if you are out and about so you don't have to disturb them. The only problem is how much they cost for how little time you get to use them for. #1 was only in it for 4 months because it just got too heavy and #2 for 6 months. If you can borrow one or find out if somewhere in your town offers hiring of them it may work out much cheaper for you. Definitely great to have though. Good luck x
Will be reposted on the facebook site at lunch time today and hope it helps! x
My first used a convertible car seat, but my second I got a capsule. Best thing ever!! She was 8lb 4oz and used it for 12 months. The safe n sound unity has the highest weight rating. Because she used it for 12 months she was able to go straight into a maxi rider so we skipped her using a convertible seat. If we had another id buy another capsule for sure!
I was bought a capsule as a gift for my first (i have 3 kids now) and found it to be the best thing. Easy in and out or the car. no waking sleeping baby and when i had more then one child, it was a safe place for the baby to be in while we were out and about. I used my capsules for around 12-18 mths age for each child and then switched to a convertible car seat. My youngest is two now and there are still days i long for the capsule so i don't have to wake him when getting out the car. Spending a bit more money on a capsule too will get you one that lasts longer. The steelcraft ones are really small and you don't get much use out of them whereas Maxicosi are a great size and will easily accommodate a 1 year old. Also if you don't want to take it out the car, you don't have to. Just leave it in like a normal rearward facing seat. Hope that helps a little :)
With my first, I used the rear facing car seats. It worked well with having one child.
With my twins, I decided to hire the capsules and used them for 8 months (you can hire them on a month by month basis after 6 months, as long as bubs is still within the weight limits) and I LOVED it. Especially having twins, but it would been just as handy with 1 baby, especially having another one.
I loved it because you could get bubs in and out of the car without disturbing them when they are asleep. Put it in the trolley while doing your shopping, a quick stop to get fuel/meet a girlfriend/grab bread... definitely made easy with the capsule.
At 8 months I still bought rear facing seats which my twins used until they were 18 months old and then turned them forward facing.
I had a capsule with my second bub and highly recommend it . I also had a 2 year old when my second bub came along so it was very helpful if I had to chase her!! I hired one from a baby place I think it was through kid safe I am on Perth but most states would have a hire place. I think it was only $75 for 3 or 4 months. If u plan on anymore children it might be worth investing in one!
My daughter was 2.7 kg born and stayed in a capsule til 6 months (8kg). She then got a bit long so we swapped to a normal car seat but left it rear facing for another month. I love the convenience of the capsule
We're going to have a reversible car seat which you can recline into 9 positions whilst reverse facing and forward facing i do like the capsule idea but all the ones we found are so heavy to carry even without a baby in them and for the price of them car seats were a better option for us
