18month Sleep Regression

18month Sleep Regression

Hi IM's

Wondering if this 18month sleep regression is a real thing?

My DS has just turned 18months and turned into a sleep and nap time monster! He's always been a great sleep, self settled from 6 months and doesn't usually have any problems putting himself to sleep day or night. Lately he's not wanting a bar of it. Bed time he'll fall asleep after his bottle but an hour or 2 later he's waking and cries and doesn't want to go back to sleep.
Nap time he is dead tired, put him in his cot, normal routine and he just cries. Have to put him back down, pat him leave and do Controled crying again until he is asleep. If he wakes during his nap he won't put himself back to sleep and just cries. After half an hour of CC I give up and just get him up. Then of course he's a terror for the rest of the day as he's still tired. Has started to not eat dinner and be quite fussy with food when usually he'll eat everything and anything.
Pulling my hair out! I'm 7.5months pregnant and so tired myself but this kid is wearing my down!

Any suggestions to get through this what I hope is a phase?!

Xx

Firstly get him checked medically. Sometimes sore throats, ear infections etc aren't obvious and can present in sleep problems and irritability. Also check he isn't getting his 2 year old molars.
But yeah kids, even the best sleepers will go through stages where they don't sleep. Don't do controlled crying if you are going to give in because your son will learn if he just holds out long enough you will cave in making his sleep worse not better. So your better of not bothering.
