Hi,
Just wondering if this question can be posted for the other IMs out there. I have 3 children, my eldest is 5 and has started school this year. He is a very aggressive and stubborn child. He often tells me he hates me and today he came out with "I'm going to get a knife and cut your head off" and he proceeded to go into the kitchen. I'm just bamboozled as to why he would be saying these things. Do other boys/girls speak this way to you? What do you do? He often tells me to "fuck off" etc too. I'm at a loss of what to do in these situations as he will not do anything I ask. I try the naughty chair but he either won't go in it, won't stay in it or moves it where he wants while he is in it. HELP!

You need to talk to his teacher and find out how he is settling in at school as your first port of call. Any feedback the teacher can give (even if he is perfect at school) will be useful.
Then go see your GP for a referral to a pediatrician AND a child psychologist. The psychologist will be able to give you useful strategies to help. You will have to follow those strategies to the letter and consistently and you will be looking for a gradual decrease in behaviour over time not a sudden stop to behaviour.
The psychologist and paediatrician will be able to decide if your son warrants a diagnosis of some kind or just a matter of needing better strategies.
Do not take your time getting your son help. 5 year olds turn into gigantic 12 year olds faster than you know it and early intervention makes a huge difference to outcomes. I worked in behavioural units with older kids whose parents buried there heads in the sand for far too long, don't be one of them.
