2yr old speech

My daughter just turned 2. She doesn't really talk and when she does I know what she's saying but others don't half the time. Is this age the right age to get her to speech therapy OR give it a little longer?

Most two year olds can say around 100 words. I wouldn't be overly worried about pronunciation at this age, but if by 2.5 others still can't understand her then I'd definitely get her speech therapy.
in the mean time Yoh could make sure you are modelling the correct pronunciation and asking her to repeat after you in at least a better approximation than she would normally say.
Of course it doesn't hurt to have a conversation with your GP or child health nurse.
If she wasn't talking at all, or much less than 100 words I would be seeking input from paediatrician and speech therapist. My son only had 2 words at 2, which lead to him being assessed for a developmental disability. He had started speech therapy by 2.2 months. I actually work with kids as young as 18mths in a speech therapy clinic (not as a speech therapist).

My daughter has a speech disorder. She was diagnosed at 3yrs and was only able to say 20 words max. We took her to a developmental peadtrician who tested for anything and everything. It was recommended she see a speech therapist she attended therapy for 3.5 yrs. the key to speech and speech disorders is early intervention, that way they don't fall too far behind in their schooling. If you live in wa your extremely lucky wa is the only state that have specialised school for children with speech disorders. It's called the Language Development Center, if your in wa look it up and start applying to get your child into this school they where amazing.

My daughter is 2.2 her grandparents came up last week and she went for about 15 words all up if that to full blown 4-5 word sentences within a day. Iv been blown away this week. Day by day the clarity of words is getting stronger- if they hadn't come up im sure she would have continued even longer not speaking! Does he understand everything? In my daughters case I should mention she is bilingual which can cause delays- but I know a fair few two year old with not the "recommended" words. Would you get your child to an OT if they weren't walking at one??? No
Also is he Steph physically often if they excel in certain milestones they fall whims in oters (something iv observed with many of "lat/early" toddlers
Again example my daughter was sitting at 3 months standing at 7 and a half months taking steps at 8 and a half fully walking by 9 and a half jumping at one climbing full parks by 16 and is almost swimming completly independently at 2.2
But she was 2-5 months late on this like smiling responding to her name babbling talking all that stuff.
If it's your only flag mark I wouldn't be worried .xx

definitely get it checked!! First of all it could be their ears, get them checked to make sure there is no fluid. I believe children should well and truly be saying enough words at 2 to be understood. My son is just a bit over 3 and I have been fighting for him since 18 mths because he couldn't speak, and quite frankly sick of hearing "oh he's fine, he will talk when he wants" or "my child didn't talk till they were 3" it has turned out he had really bad fluid and a very mild congenital hearing loss and has now been diagnosed with dyspraxia. Early intervention is the best, get onto it now! x
