I was recently diagnosed with an auto immune disease. I have spoken to both my drs at length of different treatments and have decided to try some immune suppressant drugs for the next 2 mths, as well as this Iam also taking natural supplements to help with my condition. My problem is the side effects, one was a high likely hood of my hair falling out the drugs Iam taking is a very low dose of a chemo drug. So this morning to my horror while brushing my hair it started to fall out in clumps. I've never been a person to worry about my looks that much. But I just don't know what to do if it all falls out, my husband has reassured me completely, but I just don't know what to tell my kids when mummy has no hair. I don't want them to get picked on at school or for ppl to ask
Questions. My kids know Iam unwell and know Iam taking medication for it but Iam just so worried about my kids reaction, especially my daughter. I also work in retail and right now if someone asked me about it I would Probally start crying.
What do I do ?? Should I keep taking the drugs or stop from a very fragile IM.

I'd talk to my doctor or specialist before deciding. But I'd probably keep taking the drugs. Just explain to your kids why your hair is falling out. Kids cope with these things way better than we think they will especially when we tell them what's happening. Your kids won't be embarrassed.
I'd go and buy some lovely scarves to wear to work or other places. Also find a Facebook support group for women who are loosing or have lost there hair. I'm sure they are a wealth of knowledge.
I can't begin to imagine how you must be feeling but I'll say two things:
A decision over whether you stop your medication should ONLY be made in consultation with your doctor, but given that you are extremely troubled/anxious about the side effects I would suggest talking to them;
If you're not getting counseling, I suggest looking into it - seeing a psychologist or counsellor can give you some help/release plus help you devise strategies for dealing with questions from others.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon xx
Tell your kids the truth, they'll probably handle it better than you think and they'll be better armed for questions they receive at school. Talk to your doctor if you are thinking about stopping the drugs. Try to not think too much about what other people are going to say. Your health is paramount but naturally you need to be happy and confident as well so also think about talking to someone about your feelings. Best of wishes to you.
