At what point do mums consider being in "labour" ?
Mum and I were talking last night about a family friend who had just had her first baby, her waters had broken and she went to hospital at 7:30am baby was born at 9:30pm. However the family count her labour from when she started having pains ...... 3 days earlier! Mum says labour starts when you can't bear the pain anymore or at around 6 cm and can go to hospital. I counted my labour as when my waters broke. My sister reckons it's how long you're pushing. I am just curious if any mums out there actually do count labour from the 'backaches' and early contractions(the ones that can be hours apart)

It's like trying to clarify when you lost your virginity! To me it's as soon as you had any object, hand, or penis in your mouth, vagina or anus. To someone else it means the first time you experienced a penis in your vagina.

the hospital says labour has started once the contractions are at regular intervels or your 3 cm dialated, mine went for 36 hours, if i had of counted the hours before the regular contractions it would have been close to 54 hours :/

I count it as soon as my waters broke. But I didn't have any pains etc until after they broke #1- 9hrs, #2 - 3hrs, #3 - 5hrs.
