Should I have prolapse correction surgery?

Should I have prolapse correction surgery?

I'm 27 and have a back wall prolapse and am wondering if I should have the surgery to fix it? I feel like my GP has fobbed me off a bit. I'm left thinking I will just have to learn to live with it. My GP even went as far to tell me that if I get constipated to just put a finger inside to press on the prolapsed bowel! Not really something I want to do for the rest of my life!

I would absolutely be getting a second opinion and see what they have to say.

Yes I would say get it fixed. I mean, at the end of the day you don't HAVE to...but if it is affecting your everyday life then go for it! If you have the money or insurance to do so. Good luck!

Dear IM, I am 34, and have had 6 children. I saw my GP who said I had a mild prolapse. Fortunately I have been able to access 12 months of Physio through my hospital to help me since the birth of my last child 4 months ago. I have found it extremely beneficial. Maybe you can get a referral to physio from your GP through the public system, or use physio if you have private health cover? Also you may be able to access it similarly to how I did if you have given birth in the last 12 months. I am benefitting from exercise and splints to help with mine though both my GP and physio said they had seen worse from people younger than me with less children too.
Good luck I hope you get the help you need. If your GP won't investigate further, I suggest seeking another opinion.

I would if it were me. I would also find myself another GP! You deserve better! Hope it all goes well for you.

I got referred to my local hospital to see the gyno.

Advice is still a lot of physio (I'm still bfing no2) but got fitted with a pessary. Feels fantastic. Am back to normal after both front and back lapses. Hopefully once I still feeding, my body will retain back to normal and I can get pessary removed. It's a matter of doing the kegals & getting things checked
Every 6 months. No surgey & no needing to insert fingers to put everything back where it belongs.

I think you need to see another Dr. Your health & well being is important & your happiness is equally important so go with what you want & research all your options :)

Please do yourself a favour and research the Kegel machine. I bought mine in November and it is them BEST thing I ever did for myself. I've had great results and no longer is surgery a subject. They are pricey and mine came direct from the company in UK, but worth every cent!! Perhaps see a new doctor couldn't hurt either. All the best. :)

Agree with other IM's, get a second opinion! Physio/Osteo can help and if it doesn't, I'd be going for the surgery for sure.
