Baby # 2

Hello,
I have one child a 5 yo boy who has just started prep this year. He is forever asking us for a baby brother/sister. He would make a great big brother he is an awesome kid. However my husband and I always only wanted to have one child. After about 2 years of our son baggering us I'm thinking of just giving in and having another. My husband isn't too keen but said if that's what I want he will agree. We may not be too keen now but we know we will love the baby unconditionally. I have only just gone back to work a year ago and I am really liking my job. But I feel this is something we have to do for our son. He has been asking us for a sibling since he could talk and if we wait too much longer there would be quite an age gap between them. I suppose my question is, have you ever had another baby simply because of your only child wanting one so badly?

No, I would never have a baby just because my child asked for one. Your child isn't the one that has to financially support, get up in the middle of the night, change nappies, take time off of work. Your child doesn't know or understand the consequences of another baby!
You only have a baby if the two people who have to do the work really, really want to.

a baby is not a toy that u buy because your child wants one.
You and your husband need to want one for yourselves, not because you were 'badgered' into it by a 5 year old!

Absolutely not! A 5 year old wouldn't really understand/ know what they want. Yes it is a good reason to have a 2nd to give your only child a sibling but it shouldn't be the only reason, you and your husband must want this child too as it will be you 2 raising, loving, providing for this baby not your 5 year old :)

Just giving in to your child is no way reason to bring a baby into the world. Teenage years are going to be hell if you are giving into your child!

My son has always said he wanted a sibling since he could talk. I was a single mum though so there was no chance of that. Last year i met someone and i am now 35 weeks. He was stoked when i told him. He is going to be an awesome big brother even if he isnt getting what he ordered! (He is getting a little sister) he has already asked for another one after this one but i am putting my foot down. There will be a 7 year age gap.
