I'm looking for advice from anyone who has been down the marriage separation path about the accuracy of their lawyer's advice on the likely financial split that they were entitled to on separation. My husband left a few weeks ago after 11 years of marriage and I have been to a couple of lawyers to suss them out and get advice. They have both advised that I should be entitled to an 70-75% split of our funds due to the fact that I had a lot more in the way of assets at the start of our relationship, and also, my Mum has gifted me a lot of money over the years. My ex-husband is obviously looking for a split closer to 50/50. Before I embark further into difficult negotiations, it would be great to hear from anyone out there as to how accurate their lawyers advice was when it came to the final number crunch of the separation. It will help me a lot with knowing how hard and long to battle over the money for.
Can anyone advise me of how accurate their lawyer's financial advice was during their marriage separation?

My split was 87/13% because I had all he assets and custody of the child. All extras that needed to be sold and split was 50/50. As long as it's documented you should be fine and I think hubby is in for a rude shock!
What kind of man are you separating from. If he's got a boarder liner personality disorder (Narcassist, sociopath, psychopath, dead set nasty side)… get ready for him to put you though HELL and do what he can to bankrupt you. I would suggest getting what you can and running for the hills, don't try to fight him with lawyers if he's one of those guys who can't bare to lose. If he's reasonable, I would be PUSHING HARD to get him to agree to doing an ENE. Early Neutral Evaluation. That's where you both go to ONE senior lawyer, he looks at your pool and he is completely neutral in telling you what it would look like in a court trail. YOU WILL SAVE THOUSANDS In lawyers fees, it will be far quicker and you can both move on!!!! GOOD LUCK….. I've been in the legal battle for 2 years, spent over $100,000, ex has spent about the same and we are still nowhere. try to avoid lawyer fighting lawyer like the PLAGUE!!!
