Sons first birthday

I would love some help on what to get my son for his first birthday im a single mum with the parties and all I can't afford a lot. He is very spoilt with gifts from grandparents and I got him so much for Christmas loads of toys and clothes. I would love to get him something special like sentimental that I can have away for him to cherish when he gets older.

I love this idea, but as a gift for an 18th or 21st. As in, start it now and make sure to put any spare money in it each week so they hopefully end up with a nice sum of money you can give them when they're old enough. :)

I got my daughter her very own tradition for her 1st birthday.
I bought a nice notepad with hardcover and lots of pages.
I wrote the story of her conception, pregnancy and birth in it. I followed that with highlights from her first year. It came to about 10 A4 pages (handwritten).
Every year after I intended to write the highlights of the year past. Its been a year and a half since then and while I have the highlights written I am yet to transcribe it nicely into the book.

I got hold of my grandma's journals after she passed away and really enjoyed reading things from her perspective. She always kept things positive and that was what inspired me to start this tradition!

For the 1st birthday if your child will receive toys etc from others then you'd be better off saving your money for when you really need to buy your child something. Just my opinion of course...
