You should be getting a scan at 19/20 weeks to check on the babies growth. At the same time they can have a look to see if they can tell the gender. If you go through the hospitals you shouldn't have to pay for your scan.
I got a 3d scan at 15 weeks and said a girl and I had a girl. I found it a great experience :)
I wondered the same thing when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I had the scan and it's was just one of those amazing moments when I wanted time to stand still
