Hi IM's
my son has had behavioural problems his entire life. once school started he got worse and early in prep he was diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety. I agreed but was certain this wasn't all that was going on. after pushing and seeing as many people as I could he was eventually diagnosed with Central Auditory Processing Disorder, he was specifically tested only for Spatial Processing Disorder through there may be others under the umbrella that he has. it is now two years later and he is doing better however I believe there is more we can do for him. my problem is his paediatrician doesn't believe in CAPD and believes its just a fancy word for an attention disorder. I am going back to my GP to discuss some problems that have risen since my son started grade 4 2 1/2 years ago and id like to ask for a referral to another pead who specialises in anxiety, adhd, CAPD etc that will be open and accepting of his diagnosis (he was testing by Australian hearing and a speech pathologist and both diagnosed the CAPD. he was also done the WISC test through a psychologist which identified the same thing). Can any other mums or dads who have children with similar disorders recommend a paediatrician who can help. I've spent the last 4-5 years feeling like we see an improvement then when he struggles again I have to fight to get it acknowledged and get him support. I also want to ensure there isn't anything else underlying which may be preventing him from improving even with all the strategies we already have in place. basically i just want to know we have a supportive professional who is educated in these disorders so i know i am getting my son the best available support. Thanks :)
