Non-religious child in private school.

Non-religious child in private school.

My daughter is due to start Kindy next year. I have got her into one which I believe is one of the best from research. There is a private Catholic primary school across the road which we are thinking of sending her to. While I'm very happy for her to have a quality private education, I'm concerned as we are not Catholic. I'm worried that she will feel pressured to conform to the religion or maybe feel different from everyone. Just wanting to hear other families experiences of putting a non-religious child into a private school. Thanks lovelies xx.

It varies in the school. I've visited some catholic schools and you would barely know they are catholic and others are full on and very uncomfortable if you aren't. Go visit the school

Putting your children into a private Catholic school means that they will be learning things about the Bible and Jesus and all things related to Christianity. If you are not too concerned about that then you should be ok. Catholic schools are part owned by the government so they are required to have a portion of students and teachers who are not practicing Catholics. However, some private Catholics schools require all students and teachers to be Catholics. If the school has a closed enrolment policy, meaning only Catholics can be enrolled then your daughter will not be accepted anyway hence, you won't have to worry about being pressured to do things for feeling different. If the school has an open enrolment policy then most likely, there are lots of other students that go there that are not from Catholic homes hence, they will not enforce or pressure her to do anything she is not happy to do. Nor will she feel different as she won't be the only child in that situation.

I went to a christian school. Alot of academic pressure more than religious pressure I can say. she will be persuaded to believe YES Because that is what it is. my parents had us in the public system before an incident they wanted a strict no bullying attitude which this one did so switched us to private. I think insight into religion is good. maybe walk around the school for a tour and see how it feels. Goodluck
