From co-sleeping; to cot sleeping

I'm a single parent with an 18 month year old, I have just finished breast feeding him as of 2 weeks I use to always feed my son to sleep, now I have been rocking him to sleep which I feel as I am making a rod for my own back, we have co-slept from birth. I have tried putting him in his own bed for a week now he wakes up crying; up to four times a night and will only go back to sleep if I rock him standing up, I'm just wanting him to sleep through the night again, and for him to be able to self settle himself back to sleep if awaking in the night.

i have co-slept with my daughter (now 22 months) since birth and fed her to sleep. She has never slept in her cot, never wanted to, so we have gone straight to a single bed which i am currently transitioning her into. I stopped feeding her to sleep and instead just lay down beside her. I don't rock or play with her hair or anything, just lay beside her and sometimes turn my back to her if she plays around so she knows that mummy is going to sleep. I spend a couple minutes each nap doing this and she sleeps fine it is just enough for her to know im there. maybe try that, put a mattress on the floor beside his bed so he knows you are there so you dont have to keep rocking him. he wont need it forever, but he is still very little atm. x
