Hi mummies. I need some support. I have a 21mo and have just been diagnosed with bipolar. Previously I was being treated for depression but my mood swings were out of control. Have just started taking Saphris. I am just hoping there are some other mummies out there with bipolar who can offer some comforting words/advice about adjusting to the meds and dealing with the condition in general.

Any form of antidepressant/ anti psychosis? Medications can take up to 4 weeks to kick in. There will be side effects ( mine was drowsiness and craving sweet things) it can even take up to 6 weeks for the full effect. Be patient. Let friends/family/partners know so they are understanding that you may not be yourself. I know before I was diagnosed i was always unhappy and made poor decisions (you know, never wanting to sleep alone) try not to make big decisions while your tablets are kicking in as you may not be thinking clearly. . . Like dating (if you are single) or anything long term. I know I left a long term partner while in the process and you end up feeling terrible afterwards. Not sure if this helps. Keep your head up and remember you are loved :)
