Wisdom teeth removal

Wisdom teeth removal

Hi, I've just been to the dentist and have been told I have to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed under general anesthetic. I have a 6 month old and I'm still breast feeding. Has anyone else had their wisdom teeth removed and how long did the operation take? Could you breast feed straight after? Were you really groggy after and how long did your recovery take? I will be booking an appointment with the surgeon soon, just curious to know others experiences.

I had my 4 wisdom teeth done under a general (along with all my top teeth so not sure how much help I will be) operation took about an hour and a half, I really didnt have alot of pain after but I will assume you will be given pain meds anyway I was given endone and pan forte. I was extremely groggy after surgery and slept pretty much for 24 hrs but a general is different for everyone.
I was ask if you could hold off on surgery until bub is off breast feeding as a precaution but Im sure your surgeon will answer any questions about breastfeeding after it :-) good luck.

Its an all day process i went in at 6am prepped and qued by the time i was out of recovery it was about 5pm.And I was in private hosp. Didnt have a dependant tho. Your best to express as im not sure of the time it takes for the general to leave your system. Talk to the doc.

I have had several surgeries while breastfeeding (including having my wisdom teeth out.)

I was told by all the anaesthetists that there was no issue feeding after surgery. I was even able to breastfeed my daughter while on a morphine PCA. They said as long as I felt confident holding her, etc then I was fine.

I expressed enough milk for 24 hours (just to make sure they didn't run out while I was in surgery and then recovery) but fed pretty much straight away when I was back in the ward.

I found it best to speak to the anaesthetist rather than the surgeon as they really had no idea and suggested not feeding as a precaution (whereas the anaesthetist was able to explain the risks, etc.)

I had mine removed under a general when DS was 4 months old, he was bf during the day and formula at night. When I had my op they advised that I pump and dump for the first 24hrs so the meds they give you during the op were out of your system and I double checked that the antibiotics and pain relief wouldn't effect my feeding, however the antibiotics turned my breast milk green and because DS spent two days on the bottle he refused to even latch on. I had to use the panadine forte a few times in the following days and it just made me so groggy and knocked me out that I struggled even doing a bottle feed. If I had to do it again I would make sure i was better stocked up on frozen expressed breast milk so that if you did react to the antibiotics you could still slowly re-introduce the boobies and would have just plain panadine on hand :)

Hello, I had all of my wisdom teeth taken out when my baby was 4 months old. It was fine. My mum took a day off to look after her in the patient lounge while I was being operated on. I was away from her for about 3 hours total.
I gave her a big feed before I went in, my mum topped her up with EBM after she woke up and the doctor told me she should have a previously expressed feed after my op, but I would be fine to feed as normal later that day.
Felt normal the next day, aside from a bit of swelling.

I had mine out when bub was 7 weeks old and bf. I fee bub at 6am at hospital at 7am expressed at 9am in op at 10:30 out by 12 expressed at 12:30 (threw out) home by 2 expressed at 3:30 and again at 6:30 (both feeds thrown out) then fed at 9 and continued to feed. Recovery was 3 days I continued to take panadeine forte an nurofen overlapping each other. Hubby helped for 2 days but was ok by the third. Tell then you are bf as the doc had a nightmare putting my canular in as I was dehydrate from having not been able to drink. They might r considerate and put you earlier as well.
Good luck
