I'm in the throws of introducing solids to my 5 month old. So far we've had plain butternut, potato, sweet potato and carrot. I have sooo many questions!
Any tips on different mixtures, how to cook the veg (because if I'm honest the food has probably not been mushy enough for my little one), and how to puree? Does using a fork just work? What about a potato ricer? I don't want to purchase anymore kitchen gear! What other foods can I start introducing over the next few weeks?
And lastly, how much should I be giving? It seems as if bub could just keep eating and eating, but have noticed a marked decrease in the amount of BM being taken at each feed - should I decrease the amount of solids so that milk is still the priority? Thanks IM's

I used to do huge lots or mash pumpkin potato and whatever other vegies i had and i'd separate them and add gravy to one lot Vegemite to another lot and have a plain lot so they'd all be different flavored. I'd be making food priority not milk. I used to just try anything and everything one of my sons faves when he was a bit older and could have it a bit lumpy was corned silverside mashed potato cauliflower brocolli with white sauce i used to make extra for the family and put all the rest in a mixing bowl and mix it up and freeze him meal size amounts. But i never added salt to my cooking when i planned on using it for bubs food too. Ice cube trays are fantastic for freezing there food in until they start eating bigger amounts
Check out baby led weaning.
My 7 month old has never had purees, but eats small pieces of vegemite sandwich, banana, watermelon, cooked chicken/broccoli/carrots, crackers etc like a pro.
Also, food before one is just for fun.
Milk first, then food. DON'T fill them up on food then offer milk. They don't get everything they need from food, so definately just for tastes and textures before their first birthday. You might like to check out the World Health Organisation website instead of just taking our advice though, they know their stuff!

:) hope it helps.
My little one is 6 months and she has whatever veggies I have just steam them then blend 'up with a stick mixer/baymix. She loves apple and pear puree... Also I give her heaps of food to eat herself, toast fingers, cheese, watermelon, banana all different things. I have also just started adding cooked meat, chicken, lamb, etc. Good luck with it all
Please don't make food the priority. Your breastmilk will give her all the nutrition she needs, food is extra.

Try breast feeding before you feed her and that way she won't just fill up on food. I use a stick mixer to purée. Good luck!
