Hi all, I have a 7 month old little boy who has been a hungry eater. Based on doctor's recommendations, he was started at 4 months on purees. I like the idea of baby-led weaning and based on what I've read, I decided to try it. What am I to expect (because they don't really tell you what the process is with your LO)? How is the BLW meant to go? I know that he gags if his puree is too thick (we're getting thicker in stages) but I tried once with banana and he took a small piece and as he tried to swallow it he gagged again. I am just not sure if I am doing this right. I know I have to have patience and allow him to explore (which I do) and I supplement his experimentation with puree because I don't want him to starve. I am just worried that I won't feed him well but then at the same time I worry about him having too much food with the puree. He only ever eats his portion (say 100g or so depending on the meal/time of day/day) with milk (BF) but I still worry that it will lead to obesity (which is all you read on the BLW materials). Any information is really helpful. Thanks

You will notice if your baby is becoming overweight and then you just adjust the amounts your feeding accordingly. Any method you use requires a bit of commonsense as babies are still children and don't have the ability to know always what is good for them and they can't see the long term effects of there actions. I don't think there is an all or nothing to any approach you take what works for you and the baby and abandon the rest.
gagging is normal, its a reaction to the different texture. I find this website great for info http://www.babyledweaning.com/. also just make sure you cut anything that is circular (sausages, grapes etc) anything that can become lodged in the wind pip. I cut all sausages, steamed carrots, cucumber etc lengthwise.
