friends wanted

Hello all.
I am currently struggling with myself. I used to be a very social person. But after a failed friendship I have withdrawn and no longer spend time with people outside of my home. I work full time and can maintain work relationships but cannot seem to extend this to outside of work. I am now very lonely and lost my zest for life. I have. I no get up and go. I guess the question I have is where do you go to meet people. I'm 48 and really wanting to extend my social circle. Any suggestions.
