I need help with in 7th grader. Hes 13, has innatentive adhd, and a lot of ASD characteristics.
His room is GROSE....! I smells of mouse, sweat, food scraps and God knows what else. When the kids are told to clean, he gets so distracted, that what should have been a 5minutes task, becomes an all day one, because he ether is overly distracted, or simply can't part with something (happens more often then not) even if its trash.
We have tried task lists, approaching it in small amounts each day (the mess grows 3 times as fast as he cleans) going in and helping him (causes him panic because we try to talk him into tossing something.
Im 100% sure he has mice, ants and roaches. Help

When he's at school, get in there and clean it! Put in some storage solutions so he can keep it clean. If there's mice and roaches, he doesn't get to decide anymore. If he's not happy with what you've chucked (if he even notices) he may be more motivated to keep it clean. Don't announce, just do it.
