I am renting the house I live in and had a small mishap today resulting in a broken window. I’m obviously going to be paying for it as it was my fault, so in saying that do I have to let the realestate know? And will it look poorly on my history, with the current rental crisis I get quite anxious about giving the realestate any reason to kick me out.

I'd go with honesty. Simply explain the situation, tell them you are 100% happy to cover the repair costs and ask them if they have a preferred glazier that they'd like you to use.
No, you don't have to tell them if you're paying for it to be fixed yourself. If it was just the pane and not the frame they don't need to know.
