Birth Control for Teens.

Birth Control for Teens.

My daughter is currently on oral Birth Control that has also cleared her acne.

She is thinking of getting the Merina fitted as our GP informed us it's the safest form of Birth Control.

Has anyone suffered with any side effects from the Merina or Kyleena?

It's not usually recommended for teens, I think implanon is better.

The GP told us implanon was the worst form, followed by oral. She claims the merina is the safest. But something just doesn't sit right with me regarding any of them.

Things must have changed then, I did have the mirena I liked that I had no period and didnt have to worry about contraception but I didn't like that it made me sluggish and killed my sex drive a bit plus I gained weight. I guess try it if she wants and give it 6 months to get past the settling in stage and if she is not happy on it she can get it removed.

The mirena is far from the safest! Look up the Mirena support group on Facebook. Doctors are lying!!!! Paid off by pharma. There's lawsuits overseas against Bayer for the mirena and all the damage it has caused. I would NEVER advocate for my daughter to get that device. It nearly cost me my life!

I’ve heard a lot of negative things about the mirena. There’s the occasional good story of someone having no issues with it, but there seems to be more negative stories. Maybe get a second opinion from another GP. If she’s doing well on the pill and is remembering to take it at the same time everyday, then why does she need to change to something else?

I’m 47 and recently had my first Mirena put in. I’ve had 3 children. If your GP Is suggesting this for your teen daughter then I’d be finding a new GP. Not appropriate for a teenager, and completely unnecessary to put her through that procedure, keep it simple and uncomplicated and stick with the pill.

I have a marina in, the doctor made it very clear that it could easily damage the tissue and before they did the fitting they asked if I was done having children.

I had the injection from 18-23, didn’t get pregnant till 29yrs old
Had 2 kids, put implanon in, had a few of them, one they couldn’t get out.its still hanging around in my arm.

Personally the injection every12 weeks would be my go to

I was pushed into getting the mirena. I think it should be banned. I became worse towards the end as my body was no longer naturally producing the hormones it needed. It is not localised at all. They are lying!

My SIL was pushed into getting one. She already mental health issues, and as soon as it was inserted her mental health rapidly got worse. It took months of asking doctors to remove it, and in the end she had to threaten to reach in and remove it herself before they removed it. Within half an hour of it being removed her mood stabilised and she was feeling like herself again.
