Hi Beautiful IM'S, I'm 23 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and unsure how the paid parental leave works?? I'm due too have Bub in march and have a very active job, I'm exhausted already... when will I have too work up until to be entitled too paid parental leave?? Also how many weeks old was your bub, when you received your first payment? I'm currently working 24 hours per week and want too stop work at 33-35 will this be possible?? Thanks in advance xx

Hi I was working 22 hours a week and had to stop work at 20 weeks to go into hospital on bed rest. I did not return to work. My doctor supplied me with a medical certificate and I was able to get paid parental leave with this. This was nearly 2 years ago. I left applying till near the end of the eligibility period so my baby was about 7 months I think. You could however apply straight away, I just wanted to time it later on. Check with centrelink. I am currently on paid maternity leave. I was working 24 hrs a week and was made redundant 7 weeks before my due date. When i enquired whether this would affect me they told me if I was working for the last 10 months of the yr before the due date and was working atleast 10 hrs a week (u need to have worked 280hrs for the past 10 months, I think but just double check) and not having more than an 8 week gap between work days then I would be eligible. it doesn't matter if ur getting holiday pay in those 8 weeks u just can't have an 8 week gap of not working. so if uve been working for the past yr at 24 hrs a week and if u leave 5 weeks before ur due date u should b eligible. Just don't leave any earlier than that because u have to account for being overdue and they let u go 2 weeks past ur due date in most pregnancies. In some circumstances they allow medical leave with a medical certificate. and I got my maternity leave pay when bub was a week and a half old. but as I already had 2 kids I was already on the system so it was quick. but I was told it could take up to 4 weeks to processed.
