Hi IM's,
Does it help having a certificate when applying for a administration role? SAHM wanting to return back into work, with no admin experience, so I am very hesitant with applying, there are so many jobs on seek for administration (in the Cairns area). Also any advice on how to do a coverletter. It's been 10 years and I'm so excited to be in this stage of my life!
Thank you 😊

It really depends on the position.
We were wanting someone with not too many qualifications for an admin role.
My reasoning-
I didn’t want anyone coming in and changing anything, not because I am opposed to change, my personal brain is full, I just wanted them to get on with their day.
I thought our offered position may be beneath a very qualified person
But….
It has kind of bitten me on the butt, because the program xero has its quirks and I am realising how quirky it actually is, as it is second nature to me.
My suggestion depending on what type of admin role you are going for… learn what is used in that particular field or at least be familiar
Eg….we are a trade business.
We use Xero, used to used MYOB and Service M8, others use Tradify or Simpro.
These programs all have their glitches and it can be overwhelming.
Maybe an introductory admin course for a general overview
I'm going to be brutally honest here, getting an admin role in Cairns is really hard, speaking from experience as a degree qualified person with experience.
Have a go, but I don't think a tafe certificate will make much difference.
I would suggest a back-up plan like for example, apply for a florist assistant position and you might be able to move into the bookkeeping side of things down the track.
I would suggest getting your foot in the door in any job you can get and then consider training down the track, specifically targeted at progressing your career in your current role.
If you have no experience then a certificate will definitely help you get a foot in.
Up in Cairns, look at A02 roles in qcs. It’s entry level and as long as you have basic computer skills, everything else is teachable
