Chocolate and shortness of breathe

Chocolate and shortness of breathe

I posted a year ago or so ago, about shortness of breathe. I have since been diagnosed with asthma, so that was part of my problem and I was relieved to have a diagnosis but separate to that my question is about chocolate and what causes shortness of breathe after eating it. Someone mentioned on my old post, that chocolate caused them shortness of breathe. I started taking notice of this after my post. Tonight I ate some chocolate and here I am short of breathe.

It’s not an allergy, I have been tested but I am curious to know what causes this from eating chocolate.? Does anyone know? Is it the chocolate itself or is it a gut issue that may react to chocolate.

I know that someone on here would know and would experience this and know what causes it. Keen to understand it that is all.

I should probably put the chocolate down ( I know )

Thanks for your input fellow chocoholics

I read somewhere that cocoa (main ingredient in chocolate) has anti inflammatory properties. My asthmatic son has to be careful taking anti inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen, voltaren etc) because it can trigger his asthma.

I wonder if that might be what's causing your problem?

Chocolate is high histamine and tyrosine. Have you considered a histamine or amine intolerance?

My brother is a chronic asthmatic, as am I. Foods can be a big trigger for attacks. My brother can't eat red peppers, but green and yellow are fine.
