Keeping Weight Off

Has anyone been able to successfully lose weight and keep it off?

Over the years I have managed to lose weight relatively easily. However keeping it off is a serious challenge.
I am counting calories, do I need to just keep decreasing them further and further once I reach my goal, in order to keep the weight off? I’m sick of regaining it all the time and having to go to the effort of losing it again. Please tell me it is possible to lose it for good!!!

So when you calorie count, if you’re consistently eating fewer calories than your body needs to fuel itself then you’re in a deficit. You lose weight. So they say every 7700 calories in deficit equals 1kg of fat.
When you’re at goal weight you won’t need to be eating in a deficit anymore, but you will want to eat to maintain. So you need to know how many calories your body runs on and that’s your new goal. Obvs that will change depending on your lifestyle, activity, etc. there are online calculators to help you work it out.
So yes, if you’re making good habits then yes you can keep it off.

Do not go too low or your body will actually go into starvation mode. Happened to me and I could not understand why the weight stopped shifting. My metabolism slowed down and my body stored every morsel I was eating. The Dietician had to give me a stern talking to lol.

Im.in the same boat. I've lost 50kg 3 times in my life and then regained it all each time. My problem is I have no self control with portions and sugar so this time I took drastic measures and had Weight loss surgery. I can't eat the huge portions I use to and it's helped me to keep the weight off

Yes. Three yrs and counting. I lost 32kilos on ketogenic and my husband lost 70. We are still keto. It’s a lifestyle change, so will be predominantly keto forever . Fat equals weight loss, it’s proven time and time again that sugars and carbs are not necessary for survival and omitting them almost entirely aids in weight loss and healthy cardiovascular systems.

Love the keto diet. I went to Paleo to sustain the weight loss long term ;)

Keto is fantastic for losing weight and keeping it off, it’s a lifestyle for me now.
I also don’t suffer from heartburn anymore either, so that’s an added plus.

Yes. Lost 15 kilos in 2020 and successfully maintained my weight since then. It's hard work! Honestly I could probably stand to lose a bit more, I'm still overweight for my height but I got into weight training so I have a fair bit of muscle. I'm a comfortable size 12 and I feel good and comfident in my body now though for the most part.
When I feel like I'm going too far in the wrong direction I do a six week challenge or count calories for a few weeks. I stick to around 1500-1600 and lots of protein because I do train hard and I can't do that if I'm not eating properly. I just eat clean, a lot of salads, lean protein and fruit and veg. Cut back on alcohol for a bit. Then the rest of the time I can eat what I want as long as I keep up with my training.(within reason obviously, but I mean a night out once week isnt going to do much damage if I'm eating well the other 5 or 6 days). I lost the weight keeping to a calorie deficit and working out 4-5 days a week, a mix of weight training and cardio. It wasn't easy, it took awhile and maintenance doesn't come easy. I think its going to be something I'm always conscious of. I tend to put a few kilos on every winter and Christmas but I have the tools now to rein it in and get rid of them when I need to.
