Teachers end of year gift..

So when your child has a rough year with a teacher - do you do an Xmas gift or just avoid it?

I mean it’s probably not appropriate to thank them for horrible year? Right.

My son had a rough year and I could tell his teacher didn’t like him. He didn’t like her either. I’ve always done gifts but not this year. Not wasting my money!

With the exception of once or twice when my children have had teachers they loved who genuinely went above and beyond - I don't do teacher gifts at all.

My son actually had a teacher who made him miserable and an anxious wreck for an entire year. She was lucky to even get a goodbye and a signature in her retirement card from me, she sure as hell wasn't getting a present.

This is the exact reason for my post.
This teacher has really diminished his self confidence and self esteem over the year. Now I struggle to even get him to school most days.

Let your kid decide. They won’t be the only one not gifting anyway, the teacher won’t expect anything anyway, so it’s completely up to you/your child.

Yes, I would gift the teacher a token gift- not at all for her, but for him so he doesn’t feel awkward or bad. I would gift a teacher book on how to form relationships, or perhaps just frame a few quotes about promoting learning starts with investing concern - loads of cracker ones out there and if all else fails, “How to win friends and Influence people” book 😂

My girl just finished year 6. In that time she actually refused to give 2 of her teachers presents.
Her year 4 teacher I actually felt bad for.
At the class presentation parents all stood as a collective very stand off ish, bell went and all parents took kids and left. I felt so bad for her, other teachers were being gushed over in front of her.
Similar with our boys year 6 teacher, he chose to give her just a packet of 3 Ferrero Rocher. He had other presents but chose not to give it to her. Said she was too grumpy to be rewarded.

My daughter spent the year being bullied and harassed and the teacher did nothing. But she had an amazing sso and a special program teacher that teaches confidence and speaking up so we got them both a gift and a little thank you card.

I’m a teacher, I don’t expect gifts even if it’s a good year. If it’s been a rough year just finish the year and move on. We don’t ever expect a gift from any student.

I really don’t understand the whole teacher gift thing I’m not saying that teachers aren’t amazing or anything but they are literally paid to do a job sure give them a Christmas card but I’m sure as hell not purchasing gifts. I might be the asshole parent but we’re just don’t do it.
