Deep Sleeper

Deep Sleeper

Desperate for something that works!
We have an 18yr old son who will NOT wake up each day via an alarm.

He is an extremely deep sleeper (it’s absolutely NOT due to being lazy or not wanting to get up)
He has been like this for many years.
Unless you physically wake him by touch, he won’t hear a thing. He has numerous reoccurring alarms set each morning, even tried different tones, sounds, volumes, even an old school alarm clock - they just keep going off for over half an hour.
Not only is this annoying and detrimental to him getting up for work each day, but I dread if there was a fire, he won’t wake to the smoke alarm.
Anyone had similar and what did you do?

Get a sleep test machine from the chemist, it tests for sleep apnea.

Maybe test the smoke alarms one morning to see if it wakes him. But also send him off to the GP for a checkup and chat to see what options there are to see what he can try to wake him easier. Does he have a Fitbit or other fitness tracker watch. You can set alarms on them, so perhaps his wrist vibrating in the morning will wake him.

My son has hearing loss in one ear. He can sleep on his good ear, reducing how much he can hear, but he still wakes if the smoke alarms go off (horrible things, these interconnected alarms, constantly going off randomly when there is no smoke). So fingers crossed your son would hear them if they go off in the night.

There are alarms for deaf people that vibrate the bed!
But I also think exploring this issue with the dr is a good idea. There are a bunch of sleep disorders that can have this effect
