Has anyone experienced long periods as they get older? I'm 42, came off the pill a year ago. After a few months of irregular cycles, it all seemed to settle and I am pretty regular now, every 26/27 days. Except when I get my period, I'm bleeding for at least 2 weeks. I'm currently on day 17 of bleeding with this cycle! I'm sick of having my period for half the month every month. Pre children and in between pregnancies, the bleeding would last 7 days at the most but now it goes for so long. Is this part of getting older? Has anyone else experienced this? The bleeding isn't overly heavy or painful, just takes a long time from start to finish.

Oh this used to happen to me a bit over 10 years ago when I was 19-21. It was hell! I would bleed for 2 weeks. But then it got better and now it's just a normal amount of time bleeding. At that time I lived rural and the drs there did not give a single fuck and so I have no advice on how to stop it unfortunately, but I do feel for you.
Peri-menopause. IME @40 This. Then @42 really heavy periods. It was awful. I chose a Mirena and within 3 months no periods. I'm 56 now and haven't had another period. I do not miss them.
Peri-menopause can start anytime from 10 years away from menopause as your hormones start to become irregular. As your hormone levels change from day to day and even hour by hour blood tests are not useful. However, a trip to the gynecologist is in order to check that everything is all good. The change in your cycle and the extended bleeding can just be peri but could also be a sign that things are not as they should be.
