My son has it. He really struggles with his attention span. He gets lost during conversation. He will go to do something, walk up the hall, and totally forget why he went up there. His time management is a mess, and needs constant prompting.
I know this will be a little different being he's a child but I hope it helps.
He has been on dexamphetamine (pretty much speed) and it didn't help much. I'm waiting for a new appointment to try new meds as it's trial and error
I recently received my official diagnosis. I find my main issues to be:
- starting and staying on task (lots of ADHD paralysis, finding it hard to know where and how to get moving), getting overwhelmed with tasks
- sensory sensitivity
- anxiety
- it impacts my communication; I blurt and jump into conversations when it's not my "turn", I trail off and find I lose my train of thought or I ramble on for ages not getting to the point of my story
- binge eating for sensory input/dopamine fix
- binge drinking
- I'm completely time blind, I find getting places on time is hard, or I'm super early because I'm scared to be late, estimating times for task completion etc
- I've always struggled with money and budgeting, and I make impulsive spending decisions
- I struggle at times with sitting or being still
There are lots of things I'm probably forgetting. I trialled short-acting dexamphetamine recently and that was very successful, so have switched to Vyvanse which is a long-acting version. I find it helps but it's not what I expected (magical crystal clear brain and super motivation). I find it easier to get started with and stay on task, the eating and alcohol consumption and I'm calmer.
