Could be the same thing I had - my hairdresser said thick hair dries so slowly or doesn’t even dry so the skin gets affected and flakes. So hairdryer your hair or at least leave down to completely dry, don’t tie it up.
I use thinning scissors to cut out thickness, I have also done undercuts, and I straighten mine to take out frizz. I have never found curly products that really make mine do those luscious curls.
My teenager has thick and dense hair that tends on the oily side. They had shocking cradle cap as a baby and as a young child we struggled to keep the oil and flakes out of their hair. We like the My Soda (Clean) variety from Woolies. If you have frizz though, you may be wavy or curly. I have curls and the biggest thing I've learned from years of struggle to care for them is hydration is key to beating the frizz. I recommend joining a Curly group on FB (The Curly Kindness society is good - I do not recommend curly girl groups, they border on cult-ish) for tips on how to manage your type of hair.
