I just got an inheritance and I'm taking a few months off work as I've worked non stop since my youngest was 2. I want to just take off somewhere and go and visit a random town I haven't been before! What random town would you recommend that is NOT in a capital city as I've visited all of the capital cities already. Wanting a random, possibly unheard of town. Not towns in places like the Gold or Sunshine Coast, Blue Mountains, Cairns etc that everyone knows about already.
I want to go somewhere that has supermarkets and shops etc but also somewhere that has something interesting about it :) Whether it be a natural landmark or museum...even if it's really weird or random haha. I am totally stuck on ideas even after Google.

Go on a road trip and see a few different places rather than just one town. Not sure what state you're in but join a camping fb site for your state, even if you're not camping I find the wa group a wealth of knowledge for things to see, things to miss and hidden little places you might not hear about like best places to eat and stay. You could also search road trips in your state to see what there is and use trip advisor too.
Thanks, I've tried trip advisor but I've visited a lot of those places already that's why I thought I'd ask here for random unknown places :) I will try a camping group, didn't think of that.
I meant after seeing what road trips there are see if they're on trip advisor for reviews
There's some beautiful coastal towns along the east coast of Tasmania that people always seem to overlook, loads of history and natural beauty but you're generally never too far from any shopping precincts or supermarkets either.
Do you have any you'd recommend? I've only been to Tasmania once to Hobart, Launceston and a few surrounding areas so I'd like to go back somewhere new!
Absolutely!
Binalong Bay, Scamander, Swansea, Bicheno, Coles Bay, Orford/Spring Beach. All stunning!
If you wanted to travel further south, I'd highly recommend the Tasman Peninsula - Dunalley, Port Arthur (the ghost tours are a personal favourite of mine).
Cradle Mountain is also amazing but that may be a little more adventurous than you're looking for.
Good luck and happy travels 😁
Thanks I've been to Port Arthur and loved it 🥰 really appreciate your suggestions! I haven't been to the ones you mentioned in the first paragraph
Boonah QLD if you want great food in particular
Thank you!
Yamba Nsw

Yeppoon Qld

Thanks heaps! I have been to Yeppoon and I LOVE it! I plan to live there when I retire actually
No worries, We often camp at kenilworth and the little town is just lovely there.
Yamba is beautiful
I haven't been to Kenilworth or Yamba so I'd be excited to visit 😊
My best holidays are little known places! Roma, QLD great for a short break - excellent museum and night show about the discovery of oil and gas in the area. Bathurst - you can drive around the racetrack, Darwin visited the gardens and the parks are beautiful, so much early Australian history. The most amazing museum with an extensive gem collection and t-rex skeleton and other fossils. The Janolan caves are nearby. Coonabarrabran, NSW is a national dark sky park, see the big telescopes at Siding Springs and join one of the locals for a star gazing experience. Best Chinese restaurant ever is there. Eden is also interesting. Beautiful seaside town, Boyds Castle and was a whaling station. There is a local museum outlining the whaling history and then go to the cemetery to see the headstones of the families mentioned in the town's history.
Thank you so much! Unknown hidden gems are the best to visit for sure!
Port Lincoln, SA. Beautiful beaches, shark diving, oyster tours, fresh seafood, plenty of national parks
Thank you! Sounds like heaven 😍
Some close to Cairns, but not in Cairns :) :
Mission Beach
Ravenshoe
Cape Tribulation
Mornington Peninsula: Red Hill, Main Ridge, Sorrento
Oh and Phillip Island, you can't beat the fairy penguins lol
Thank you!
South west rocks, nsw
Thank you!
Charleville QLD.
Thank you 😊
Airlie Beach was pretty amazing. I did a Hill Inlet and Whitehaven Beach tour, there were many other tours available- and food!!! Try the rum bar at Fish D'vine. I could have drank the keto mojitos all night.
If you're going to be up that way, the Pullman Palm Cove resort is a big tick. Excellent food, walking distance to lovely restaurants, excellent cocktails, excellent facilities and our 2 bedroom suite while expensive (we were there on peak) was luxurious. There's even a day spa on site.
