Please help, question about Thrush

Please help. I took my teen daughter to a GP nearly a week ago and was given medication for her to take for Thrush. I was asked to leave during consult so Dr could ask personal questions which I was okay with but now I am left without information on how to help her. She took the one oral tablet and has cream. Tonight she is telling me about this discharge after having three showers today. She refuses to wear a pad as she said it is too painful. Is it normal for her to have this much discharge? When do women normally start to get better? No follow up appointment was booked and now she's panicking about school and the leaking. I'm not sure at what stage I should start to worry as one site suggested waiting two weeks?? If anyone knows anything about Thrush please share <3

The oral tablet is the quickest way to recover however it can still take around 2-3 days before relief from the worst symptoms. Cottage cheese-like discharge is a symptom of thrush, but if she's using the cream that will 'leak' out. Only a small amount is absorbed by the vaginal walls. It is best to apply at night before bed. There really is no alternative to pads or tampons. The other option is to use the cream just on the area at the opening if the vagina/labia to relieve the pain. The oral tablet should do most of the work. I take the oral tablet because I can't stand the feeling of the cream. Don't wash too vigorously, don't use harsh soaps, wear cotton underwear and limit sugar while infected as candida feeds on sugar. Some women also find natural yoghurt helpful.

I haven't needed treatment in a long time, but I found a pessary gave me relief by the following day whereas the oral tablet took a few days. It definitely led to discharge though, so I used it overnight. If she won't use a pad, what about a liner or period undies?

It will take a couple days or more to completely clear up. Keep using the topical cream. If it's definitely thrush it will be gone within the week doesn't seem like it's been long enough . She also needs to insert it too. Like a pessary. And no soap!

Read the box, some of the creams aren’t to be inserted, just for the external use. When I get thrush, I drink lots of water to help flush my body out and I take an oral probiotic which always seems to help a lot as well (maybe that’s in my mind). I get it every time I take antibiotics 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sounds like it's cannestan cream which also combines as a pessary. Perfectly safe to insert.

The last one I got was CanesOral Duo Oral Capsule + External Cream, that’s why I suggested to read the box incase it’s not one for internal use. But you’re right it does sound like the OP’s daughter could be using one suitable for inserting :)

Hopefully by now the daughters symptoms have started to resolve! Poor thing it’s awful no matter the age.

I’ve always found the tablet and cream didn’t really work for me. Fungal infections like thrush can be tricky and take time if you have a really bad flare up. Go to the chemist and get the 3 day or even 6 day cream. She will need to apply the cream inside with an applicator which can be tricky. Best to apply the cream at night so it doesn’t come out while she’s awake and walking around. But she will need to wear a panty liner, pad or period underwear the next day for sure.
Don’t forget the pharmacist is always another helpful resource if you get stuck on treatment options for thrush. Best of luck!

FIRSTLY...... NO GP, GYNO ONLY FOR WOMANS HEALTH...... You can get basic treatments from all chemist

Her PH is sooo messed up. She needs to reduce washing down below. Don't use ANY products to clean down there. I get thrush alot due to auto immune, so much so I have to be careful of what shampoo I use and washing retergentd, toilet paper too. To wash, all she needs is warm water and her hand. No washers, no famfresh, nothing unnatural.
Diet can also cause issues, medications, puffers, certain foods, allergies, woman's priducs and even the kind of fabric her underwear is made from.

Sleep with no underwear, allow her bits to breath
