18 month Activities

Hi IM's,
I have an 18 month old son who I feel I could be doing more to interact with, but I'm not sure what activities he would enjoy and would help strengthen our bond.
His dad is in the army, and although we have a wonderful relationship, he lives in Sydney and we live in Townsville, so all of the interaction is up to me. I love having my boy, but I feel like he gets so bored of me!
So I'm asking for activities (partucularly educational ones) that we could enjoy on the weekends, but particularly in the evenings after daycare. Post daycare usually consits of mum making dinner and baby watching some form of technology - which I would much prefer was not the case...
Any ideas would be great and much appreciated :)

You could try swimming lessons. At this age they are mum and child in the pool together. Some libraries have story times, not sure about if they are on on the weekends or not. Also visiting an animal nursery, or just going to a busy playground where there are other kids. You might be able to find a toddler music class or similar. I don't know if kinder gym runs on the weekends.

I would be trying swimming lessons, those sometimes run on the weekend. I've never heard of the other activities previously mentioned on the weekend. You could try reading to him, and you could also play blocks and puzzles. My 16 month old loves being outside, going for a walk in the pram, playing at the park, playing with a ball and blocks

My 19month old daughter loves playdough, her sandpit with dinosaurs, trampoline, colouring in, blocks, watering the garden. She helps me cook (as in she pokes holes in the pastry while i try and roll it haha!). i lived in townsville and the best things about it are the aquarium and museum. Get a yearly pass if you can, it NEVER gets old for a toddler! The strand waterpark, the fenced playground on strand or on the corner of rowes bay (i think its a pirate ship). Swimming lessons.

Activities for the night time: A glow stick bath. Turn out the lights and throw in some glow sticks and kids are entranced for ages. Shaving cream bath paints: mix shaving cream and food colouring. He can paint the bath with his fingers or a brush. There is a facebook page called Play At Home Mom which has plenty of ideas for play with children.
