A friend was in shock recently. Her friend was pregnant after her husband had a vasectomy. It had failed, he hadn't taken the test. It took a couple of years for the pregnancy to happen as she was in her 40's so they assumed it had worked. Nope. Got tested & it had failed.
I've read many accounts on forums, as well.
It is rare, though. My husband's V surgeon said he'd only ever had one fail, thankfully picked up in testing, but the man hadn't listened to post op instructions. (H opted for the full surgical version as apparently basic cut methods hold a small risk of reconnecting).
I'd be treating it as he didn't get a vasectomy at all, until he gets the test done. It confounds me why some men don't follow through on getting the test! I bet if they could get pregnant they would!!
I personally don't know anyone who has become pregnant after vasectomy but I do know the failure rate is about 1%
So chances are slim but not impossible, tell him to get his ass into gear and get the follow up check.
Yeah my husband either had to wear condoms or go for his post op check. His Dad had to have his redone because there was an extra tube or something weird like that so highly unlikely for others to have. I haven’t heard of it failing as such but quite a few of not waiting long enough and getting pregnant in that window post surgery - one couple got baby #6 that way!
I still make my hubby wear a condom after the test, I really don't want another 😂
A friend of mine got his Mrs pregnant after a vasectomy, but I think that was in the no go period, when he can still be fertile for a little while afterwards.
If this was me, I would abstain or use condoms until you can make sure he goes back for the follow up test. My boss was still fertile months after his snip (vasectomy had been successful, just took longer to "clear the bullets in the chamber" as he put it - he had an issue with oversharing with us 🤣), thankfully he didn't get his wife pregnant because he was responsible and followed up
