Contraception advice

Hello lovely Ladies!
I am 41 and split with my children's father 2.5 years ago.. and recently started dating again. I have never been on the pill before, and to be honest petrified of putting on weight, as used to have a ED and in a really good place now. Any suggestions?

What is ED? What kind of contraception did you use with your husband? The mirena is good but it can cause weight gain in some people. Maybe have a chat to your Dr

Most contraception has weight gain as a potential side effect as they alter your hormones, weight gain isn't guaranteed though, I don't recall gaining weight when I started the pill or if I did it was an inconsequential amount.

You should really discuss it with your GP or gyno though because they'll have a better idea of your history and past ED, so they'll be able to determine what the best option for you is. Some contraceptives can mess with your mental health as well, those are the ones you probably want to avoid more than anything given your ED and that you're currently in a good headspace.

Condoms are a really good option as well, i know they aren't particularly sexy but when used properly they are very affective and they aren't going to mess with your body.
(You should be using them anyway when you're in the dating/seeing new people stage).

Good luck and happy dating 🙂

Weight gain, if any at all, is extremely minimal.

The pill is no good for your age due to hormone levels in your body - making it ineffective.
I have the mirena. I’m on my third one and they are brilliant for me.

I’m 40 and recently got an IUD… it was recommended to me by quite a few different people.
