My 10 year wants to dye the tips of her hair blue or green.
She is a brunette. Because she has brown hair I don't know if it will work? I was going to buy one of those hair dyes at Woollies or Coles, the ones that go away after a few washes.. any recommendations?
I'm not taking her to a hairdresser to do some full on thing, its just a bit of fun at home so if anyone has a daughter with brown hair who has had the tips of her hair coloured, I'd appreciate any advice on what brand of hair dye you got.
Knowing my kid, if she likes it she'll want to experiment with different colours through the year lol

Hey, my daughter had brown hair which is a nightmare to dye lol we tried all the temp ones from Woolies etc and none of them work.
We then tried semi permanent ones from hairdresser.
Fudge washed out after 2 washes.
Manic Panic lasted a few wks but very dull colour.
Will be following for anyone else’s suggestions
Unfortunately it takes loads of bleaching the hair to get those blue colours and a lot of care to maintain. Super expensive and I think it’s one of those things that’s ok to want, but for parents to say they aren’t paying for.
Just clip some crepe paper to the bottom of her hair and voila... blue tips lol
Try the costume shops for the spray ones. They're not expensive, and as you said it's only for fun.
Gets all over towels, pillows, clothes , and sheets. No thanks.
Jump on Amazon or ebay and you can get huge packs of coloured hair extensions. They clip in and look quite convincing.
As a brunette myself, I'll tell you right now not to bother wasting your money on those rinse out dyes unless you're willing to bleach her hair first because they won't show up in dark hair. At best you might get a murky tinge and that ain't cute.
Bleaching at age 10 isn't something I'd encourage personally though and it can be quite tricky to get right at home as well.
I bleached one chunk on one child and the bottom pieces on the other, then they added colour to those pieces and when it washed out it was only lighter golden brown. It’s really the only way to make bright colours show
Needs bleaching first
Go to a hair dresser for the first time, then they can advise what products to use going forth - box dye can ruin bleached hair, so ask your hair dresser!! Even if the hair dresser uses a foam bleach first, then Dan recommend different wash out or permanent colours. Most you can buy from online hair warehouses cheaper than supermarkets too.
Any of those bright colours off the shelf work great on light hair. Only $8 each and such a great range and wash out then you can put another in. They just don’t show up on brunette hair.
